Year 4E visit to Curly's Farm

Today some of the year 4 pupils had their first farm visit!

After meeting the farmer, we were given our list of jobs for the day. First, we had to collect food from the food store and feed the sheep and even some emus! Then we had to clean and refill the water buckets for the sheep and pigs. Our final job for the day was to help herd some sheep into a different pen. With the help of some food, and working together, we managed to get the flock of sheep across 2 pens!

We can't wait to find out what jobs are in store next time at Curly's farm!

Year 1 - IPC

Our topic is The Earth Our Home

We have started to think about habitats so we have been to the pond area to do some pond dipping and look at the plants to find living creatures. In class we had some craft activities to make some pond creatures and plants.

Roald Dahl Day Monday 13th Sept

Y6 begun the afternoon by coming up with their very own Miss Trunchball insults. The aim of the task was to say them out loud without laughing… it’s safe to say the entire class erupted with laughter at the interesting phrases the children came up with.

We ended by looking at the illustrations in Roald Dahl books and used watercolours to draw our own cover for George’s Marvellous Medicine.

Year 2 - IPC

This term Year 2 are learning about 'What's It Made Of?' in IPC.

To start this topic, we explored various materials around us and sorted them into types and their properties. We have investigated the best materials for classroom furniture and how materials can change.

New Reception Welcome!

I cannot believe the first week is over, it went in a blur! We loved meeting our new Reception children face to face - they were delightful. It is our favourite time of the year as we spend time getting to know their personalities and helping them to settle quickly into our school family.

They have been given the opportunity to explore their whole learning area, get to know one another, and become comfortable with the whole Reception team.

We are extremely proud of how they have settled into the first phase of their school career, here at WRPS!

Year 6 Entry Point in IPC

To begin our IPC Topic - Space Scientists - Y6 designed and created their own rockets. They used card to carefully design their rockets and attached them to a balloon ready to blast off in the playground. We released our balloon rockets and observed how far they travelled! Some went quite far!

Welcome Back To A New Term!

hope you all had a wonderful summer and are now ready to settle back into the new academic year. The children have come back to school today with a renewed energy and readiness for learning, and it has been so lovely to see them all again and to catch up with their summer news.

We are looking forward to welcoming our new Reception children, who will begin school over the coming fortnight with us. I know that all the older children will remember how they felt when they were that tiny and do their utmost to make our newcomers feel welcome and safe.

As always, we are more than happy to help you, should you have any further queries at this stage in the term. Please do use the usual channels of communication to contact us, should you need to.

End of term Letter -19th July

    Dear Parent/Carers,

This will be the last newsletter of this academic year. May I take this opportunity to thank you for all the support that you have given both the school and your children over this past year. Throughout the pandemic, my teachers and support staff have made me incredibly proud, they have excelled in continuing to deliver an education and learning experiences to the highest of standards in exceptional circumstances. We have all had to adapt to new ways of working and I wanted to take this opportunity to recognise the amazing job that you, as parents, have done in supporting your child’s wellbeing and learning during this difficult time.

Staffing Update

I also have some exciting news to share; over the half term break Miss Karim got married, so when we return in September she will be known as Mrs Miah. We will also be saying farewell to Miss Stenson who will be relocating to London, Miss Tan who will be moving to Spain for a new teaching opportunity in a new country and Mrs Chappell who will be following a new career outside the teaching role. Mrs Gibson (Y5 teaching assistant) will also be leaving us after 11 years to relocate to Norfolk and work in a new school there. I want to wish each and every one of them every success in their future careers/ opportunities and thank them for all the years they have dedicated to the school.  Mrs. Foord will be returning to us in September as Miss Gent, in her new role as SENCO.

I would especially like to thank Mrs. Goble who will be retiring from the KS1 department after 32 devoted years. She will be very hard to replace and very greatly missed. I am certain that you all will join us in congratulating her and wishing her a very happy retirement.

Transition to new classes

Today was transition day, this gave every pupil the opportunity to go into their new class and meet their new teacher and classroom assistant. The aim was to familiarise them with the routines, expectations, lunchtime organisation and playground changes of their new year group. We are sure today was a great success and all the children had a lovely day in their new class.

Can I remind you that we will break up on Friday 23rd July at staggered times:

Reception, Year 3 and Year 6 at 1pm

Year 2 and Year 5 at 1.15pm

 Year 1 and Year 4 at 1.30pm

Nursery at 1.30pm

Please collect from the usual playground.

Finally, we will be saying a fond farewell to our current Year 6. We know that the last year has been a real challenge but I know, by the way they have dealt with the last 18 months, that they will all achieve great success as they move on to their new secondary school. We all wish them well and hopefully they will visit us to give us an update on their progress.

All that remains is for me to wish you all a wonderful summer. Enjoy the break and see you all in September.

Kind regards,

Mrs. Jack
