Year 4- All Aboard Exit Point

On Thursday, Year 4 had their Exit Point for their topic All Aboard - The Development of the Railway. Our challenge was to plan, design and build a load-bearing bridge which was strong enough to hold a model train. In project teams we decided which materials we would use (some of us had to use dried spaghetti and lasagne sheets), and drew our initial designs. Then we built these using recycled materials. After the bridges were constructed we tested the strength of our bridges using a train borrowed from Mr Bennett. Some of our bridges successfully held the weight of the train, but some collapsed due to the weight of the train. We then thought about how we could improve our designs next time round!

E-Safety Advice For Parents

Year 6- Dragons Den Day 2

Our first successful group! The boys pitched their product, and requested 8 raffle tickets, for a 25% share in their business. After some excellent negotiation skills, and evidence of budgeting, they settled for 50% share, with 12 raffle tickets.

It was a very impressive pitch.
Product: Choc-Not
Selling price: £3.50 for current bar (100 kcals to target obesity)
Future prices: Increase of 50p for each "new flavour"
Sales: In the UK and USA

Year 2- Exit Point

This afternoon the children applied their knowledge of forces to help save Humpty Dumpty. The children decided to make parachutes with a paper coffee filter, cup and string. The children had to decide what size they wanted their string and whether to adjust the size of the coffee filter to ensure that the parachute gets enough air resistance, to float Humpty Dumpty to the ground safely.

Year 1 - Exit Point- Circus Day!

Internet Safety Day 2022

Tuesday 8th February 2022, is Safer Internet Day and the theme this year is about how we can all #playourpart to have a safer internet.

Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people, and to inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically, and creatively.

In support of this campaign we would like to share with you a few resources available. You can support this campaign by sharing safety advice with friends and family.

Have conversations without judgement.

Whether by playing games, watching videos, or doing things your child enjoys, spending time together online is a great way to start conversations about the online world and how they’re finding being a part of it. It is important to ask questions and take an interest in what your child enjoys online.

An essential part of having this open dialogue is to not judge, even if their behaviour or life online isn’t what you wanted or expected. This ensures that your child feels they can come to you if ever they make a mistake or experience a problem online.

Knowing where you can learn more about their favourite apps and games.

Websites like Common Sense Media or The Family Gaming Database can be invaluable sources of information. When your child starts talking about a new game or app, why not do some research into the reporting and blocking options available? Then you can help your child if they come to you with an issue.  Also learn more about parental controls Parental Controls & Privacy Settings Guides - Internet Matters

Getting support if things go wrong.

There are lots of organisations who are there to support you and your family if something has gone wrong. The Report Harmful Content website can help you with issues such as cyberbullying, impersonation and threats. You can report worrying behaviour towards children to CEOP. Find out more on Childnet’s Get Help page.

Reassuring your child that whatever happens online, you are there to support them.

Let your child know that the best way to address any problem they have online, is to tell a trusted adult immediately. For example, this might include someone sending them a friend request; an online message; telling them to visit a specific website, or app; or asking them for their personal information. Reassure them that if anything happens online that they are unsure about, or makes them feel worried or upset, they can come to you for help.
