Summer Reading Challenge - Kent Libraries

 Summer Reading Challenge is back!

Children aged 4-11 are invited to join the Summer Reading Challenge in all Kent’s libraries this summer. The Summer Reading Challenge 2021 will start on 10th July & will continue to run through the summer, finishing on 11th September.

The Summer Reading Challenge is aimed at keeping children reading throughout the summer while away from school, as well as supporting parents and carers with children already at home. And it’s completely free!

Wild World Heroes is the theme for 2021 – in partnership with the WWF, this Summer Reading Challenge will inspire children and their families to stand up for the planet.

Children will join the Wild World Heroes characters as they head to Wilderville, for an exciting adventure in making the town even better for the people and animals that live there. As children read library books, they will collect special rewards along the way and there’s a certificate and medal for everyone who completes the challenge.

Wild World Heroes will feature bespoke artwork from children’s author and illustrator, Heath McKenzie and will celebrate adventure, environment, reading and fun!

As in previous years, children can choose to join and participate in the Summer Reading Challenge by visiting their nearest library or they can take part by visiting the Summer Reading Challenge website. Once completed, children (whether library members or not) can visit the library for their medal and certificate.

The Summer Reading Challenge has been shown to help encourage children to continue their reading over the summer and we would love your help in supporting as many children to take part as possible.

Visits to the library have been shown to boost children’s participation over the summer. While we are currently unable to offer physical school visits, we are thrilled to be able to provide you with some recorded material about the Summer Reading Challenge and Kent Libraries.  We are also able to offer a small number of live sessions, where a librarian can visit your school virtually.

I look forward to hearing from you, and wish you and your classes a wonderful summer.
