Year 4 IPC Entry Point

Year 4 have been exploring the relationship between surface area and air resistance during their IPC Entry Point about Forces. They have been designing and making parachutes. Next week they will test them!

Year 5 IPC Entry Point

We have been looking at 'Growing Up' and what that might involve. We got to share what we think our future might hold and at what age we might like to get there. We then drew around a member of the class and labelled the organs using our scientific key word prompts.

Year 3 IPC Entry Point

On Monday 26th April Year 3 dressed as Stone Age people and carried out a Stone Age themed day. The children had fun hunting for food, creating cave art in their caves, becoming archaeologists digging for pieces of pre historic pots and creating their own clay pots in the same style of Stone Age people. 

Year 1 IPC Entry Point

Year 1 made rockets using a film canister and coloured card to wrap around the tube. We added colourful cones on top and orange fire at the bottom. Adults launched the rockets by pouring a small amount of water into the film canister then adding a special fizzy tablet. The lid was put on tight and then they were set on the table. The adults moved away quickly. The tablet caused carbon dioxide gas to build up in the canister until there was no more room inside. The pressure pushed the lid off and made the rocket shoot into the air. 

Reception Learning

This term Reception are learning about Growth. We will be looking at plants, the changes in us, as humans, and the metamorphosis that occurs within certain animals.Our starting point is the frog lifecycle, and we even have our very own tadpoles to observe over the next few weeks, so the children are able to see the changes themselves.We will be planting seeds, learning new art skills to create beautiful artwork based on Van Gogh's Sunflowers, finding out the difference between fruit and vegetables, as well as learning about the different life stages of humans.

Year 2 IPC Entry Point

This term in Year 2 we are learning about Buildings for our new IPC topic.This week, for our entry point we dressed up as builders and even famous structures from around the world! We had some fantastic homemade buildings, such as, a Tudor house, The Shard and Leaning Tower of Pisa.We explored how to construct a simple structure out of playing cards. This was not as simple as it looks. We experimented with using various materials to join the structure together and create a strong and secure house of cards. It was a lot of fun and challenging. We learnt that it is important to persevere and focus on the foundation of our creation. 

 

Year 6 IPC Entry Point

Year 6 travelled back in time to the 1840s and walked in the footsteps of John Lloyd Stephens and Frederick Catherwood who first studied Maya civilization with the best technology the 19th century had to offer: compelling words and captivating artwork. Using their sketchbooks, they captured the first glimpses of the Mayan civilization which we will later investigate.

The last year has been extremely difficult for our children and young people.  Every aspect of their lives has been affected, from their learning and wellbeing to their friendships.  These effects have been significant, and it is recognised nationally and internationally that children and young people have sacrificed more than most over the course of the pandemic.

 

I am delighted to write to you about an exciting programme that is being developed.  Kent County Council (KCC) is leading a community-based programme of positive, engaging and exciting opportunities and activities that help the County’s children and young people reconnect with different aspects of their lives, such as education, healthy activities, friends and future opportunities. 

 

The idea behind Reconnect comes from young people in Kent, who told KCC they would prefer a positive programme focusing on opportunities rather than emphasising the ‘damage’ that may have been done to them or their futures by the pandemic.  The ambition is that every child and young person will be able to engage with the type of activity that will benefit them the most since everyone will have different needs and desires after the pandemic. 

 

To ensure the programme meets the needs and wants of children, young people and their families, Kent County Council is asking as many people as possible to answer some questions that will inform the design of the programme.  I would encourage you to fill in this form.  It will take you about 10 minutes to complete.  Your input will help Kent County Council understand what the wants and needs are of the children, young people and families of the County.  Thank you for taking the time to consider this request.
