Road Safety Week

Reception have used their investigation area to explore how to be safe on the road by using cars and people to act as pedestrians crossing the road. Some children got road mats out to play and practise road safety. They have created traffic lights to help people know when it is and isn’t safe to cross the road.

Road Safety Week 2021

This week, we are taking part in Road Safety Week.

Road safety is a vital part of children's education and at this time of year with the dark mornings and evenings visibility is paramount to safety as we all notice pedestrians wearing dark clothing and it being difficult for others to see them crossing the road. So please ensure your children are as visible as possible for their safety.

Dangerous roads also have a major impact on their ability to walk, cycle and live healthy active lifestyles. That's why it's important to develop pupils' awareness of the risks on roads.

Reminder - Parking near the school site and considerate road use

We have received a number of complaints from the school’s neighbours regarding inconsiderate, and often illegal, parking by parents accessing the school in the mornings and afternoons, including parking in the zig-zag lines outside school and parking across private driveways.  We have also had complaints about parents and children not crossing the road with due care and attention, putting themselves, other pedestrians and the drivers of any cars near the school in danger.

We speak to the children regularly about road safety and keeping safe when crossing the road.  You can help us to ensure children have a happy and safe journey into school each morning by considering one of the following:

Walking wherever possible

Not only is this a healthy way to get some exercise, but it supports the local community with congestion.  In addition, it is much better for the environment.

Car sharing

Does anybody else live near you?  Could you take it in turns to drive in to collect your children to ease the congestion outside the school at key times during the day?

Parking responsibly

As with the majority of primary schools in the country, we do not have a ‘parent’ car park. If you do need to drive to drop off or collect your child please park considerately and ensure you are not obstructing drives, garages or access to roads.  Please be respectful of our neighbours and also turn off your engine while you are waiting.

Our children’s safety is our main priority and this includes their journey to and from school.  We appreciate your support in this matter.

Christmas dinner this year is on Wednesday 8th December.

 Cost is £2.30
Please put money into an envelope and send in with your child.

Friday, 12 November 2021

Spotty Day is next Friday 19th November.

Year 3

We had a fantastique day in Year 3, learning all about France and learning some French words. We played some French games, made our own Eiffel towers, made a poster about France and learnt the numbers in French too.

Bravo à tous.

Year 5 Visit to Shorne Country Park

5A visited Shorne Country Park as part of the "Go with The Flow" IPC unit. The children learnt about the water cycle. They completed four different activities, which included investigating the amount of rainfall in an area, identifying which types of surfaces allow run off to take place, measuring the depth of water in a pond and completing questions about the water cycle.

Year 4 - Ancient Egyptian Workshop

This week, Year 4 spent the day exploring what life was like as an Ancient Egyptian. They participated in a range of activities including making bookmarks on papyrus paper, playing Senet, an Ancient Egyptian board game and carving our own Shabtis. They also dressed up as Ancient Egyptians and reenacted the story of the Ancient Egyptian Gods; Horus, Osiris, Set and Isis. In the afternoon they explored some Ancient Egyptian artefacts and had a go at engraving our names in hieroglyphics.

Remembrance Day

The whole school had a 2 minutes silence today, to show respect and gratitude to the armed forces, past and present, who have lost their lives fighting for their country.

Year 2 today visited the war memorial. The children have been learning about their local history and painted poppies on pebbles, which they laid down by the statue, in honour of all those who served in the war.
