World Book Day 2016

We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. We would love your children to dress up as their favourite storybook characters.  There will be a prize for the best costume in each class.  Book Days in the past have had an amazing impact on the children's reading, both at school and at home, and every child will be receiving a book voucher.

Today two iLeaders went with Mrs Green to Maidstone Police Training School. They had an amazing day learning about how to support pupils at our school and teach them about keeping safe online. Watch out for more training from the iLeaders in the next few weeks.

Last week of term- Will you get the 100% for this term?

Children that manage to stay in school for the whole term will receive a 100% certificate award and will also be entered into a draw to be taken to Waterstones in Bluewater, to be bought a reading book of their choice.

Key Stage One- Chinese New Year Workshop

Today we had an interactive Chinese dance workshop for all the KS1 children. They had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of different dance styles from China.

This year it is the year of the Monkey

Chinese Dance dates back nearly 5,000 years and in Chinese culture, dance is seen as a way to express personal emotions and feelings.

Parent Forum Week

May I say a huge thank you to all the parents that have approached me in order to be so positive and complementary about the running of the school and the opportunities we provide for the pupils at Wrotham Road. I was very touched.

Parents have stated how effective the teachers, and school leadership team deal with concerns raised and also how well the schools communication has improved over the last two years e.g. the school website, blog and the text service.

A few questions that arose were:-

Can the notice boards around the school be used as a forum for advertising by the parents and outside agencies?

The school is more than happy to signpost local health and sports facilities or any local events e.g. charity events that are taking place.  So if parents would like to provide a flyer to the school, Mrs Green will check and approve the material.

Can more sporting clubs be available after school?

Unfortunately the winter months have affected what we can offer the pupils outside. This term, the football team have been lucky enough to be offered the flood lit pitch at the Guru Nanak site; which is a great use of the local community facilities. The hall is currently limited to one club a night but we are investigating starting a new gymnastic club on a Friday evening.

Will there be a replacement lollipop lady?

Unfortunately, after two rounds of advertising we have not had any applications. The school will continue to advertise and hopefully will get a replacement soon.

Number Day

Staff and children let numbers take over for the day! We came to school dressed as numbers and took part in a variety of mathematical problem solving activities.
