Writing- Summer Challenge

Headteacher Writing Challenge for the Summer Holiday

Are you planning a holiday or a day trip this summer?

I have loved looking at the children’s writing this year and my challenge for you over the summer break is to send me a postcard, telling me all about how much fun you are having and who you are spending time with. If you are lucky enough to be going away for a holiday, then perhaps you could send me a postcard from the place you are visiting.

Please only send me only one, otherwise the postman may get a little cross with me! Make sure you sign the postcard with your full name and also tell me which class teacher you will have in September. The best one from each class will receive a prize. The post cards will all be displayed in the school in the new academic year.

Happy Holidays and Happy Postcard Writing!

The school address is:

Headteacher letter

Dear Parent,
As the current school year draws to a close, may I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued help and support. We have had a fantastic year and it has been very rewarding to see how our pupils have embraced the changes that have been made. Our school continues to go from strength to strength, providing excellent support to its students and community. May I also take this opportunity to give you an update for the next academic year.

We say a sad farewell to Miss Watson, Mrs Denton and Mr Ferris, all of whom have had a huge impact on life at Wrotham Road in their time with us. I especially want to thank Mrs Denton for the 20 years she has been with Wrotham Road and wish her luck in her new post. Mrs Grant has decided to step back from the many dedicated years of leadership but she will be staying with us and will be moving to Key Stage 2 in September. I want to thank her for the limitless hours she has put in to support and lead the Key Stage One department over the years.

The teaching staff and support staff have worked effortlessly since I took over in October, driving the school forward in terms of achievement and progress across all year groups. It has been wonderful to receive so many positive comments from our community and more recently from HMI, which reflects the growing confidence in our school. Our children are a real credit to our school. It is a joy to see happy children every school day, achieving and succeeding every step of the way. This year we have increased the number of school trips, clubs and performance opportunities; strengthened the learning of different faiths; and worked very hard to ensure that academic success reaches new heights.
Obviously we also say a fond farewell to our current Year 6; we know that they will all achieve great success as they move on to secondary school. We all wish them well and hopefully they will visit us to give us an update on their progress!
All that remains is for me to wish you all a wonderful summer. Enjoy the break and see you all in September – PLEASE REMEMBER, WE RETURN TO SCHOOL ON THURSDAY 4th SEPTEMBER.

Strike Action- 10th July

Dear Parents,

Strike action- Thursday 10th July 2014

We have been informed by the NUT and UNISON, that they will be taking industrial action in the form of a strike on Thursday 10th July. This action is not against Wrotham Road itself but is part of national industrial action organised by these trade unions about changes to pay, pensions, working conditions and jobs.

Neither the governing body nor the headteacher is legally allowed to close the school, however, we have carried out a risk assessment and the classes that will be closed are as followed:-

Nursery AM and PM
Miss Butt- Reception
Mrs Fox- Year 1
Miss Gullifer- Year 1
Miss White- Year 2
Mrs Denton – Year 4
Mr Ferris - Year 5
Miss Robson – Year 6

We realise that the strike action and closure of the school for those classes causes disruption, but the health and safety of staff and students is of paramount importance. We wanted to give parents/carers as much notice as possible in order to make any necessary arrangements for Thursday10th July.

There is no requirement for unions to inform us of which members of staff will take action but they have kindly done so. We must all hope that the issues over which the industrial action has arisen are resolved as soon as possible.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah Green
